CONSULTANCY FAQ’s

  • Aren’t consultants very expensive?

We have standard rates for consultancy work that are intended to be very cost effective, on a par with hiring a well-qualified manager. If consultancy support is forecasted to extended over a period of months S&A offer reduced rates for long term commitments.

  • How are the costs controlled?

S&A provide timesheets for any consultancy work that are submitted to the client every week. Each approved timesheet is compiled into an invoice and submitted monthly. S&A provide a weekly report for all consultancy scopes that includes a cost tracking section that illustrates the committed costs against the forecast to ensure there are no surprises!

  • What estimates are provided for ad-hoc work?

Were a consultancy scope can be estimated, a Cost/ Time/ Resource (CTR) form is compiled and submitted ahead of the work progressing so the client has a good forecast for the expected costs. When the consultancy scope is lacking in definition and a CTR can’t be compiled, S&A can progress work on a ‘cost cap’ or Not To Exceed (NTE) approach where a figure is agreed and that figure can’t be exceeded without formal approval.

  • How is confidentiality maintained?

S&A have numerous Non Disclosure Agreements (NDA) with clients. We have our own template that can be used or are happy to use a clients NDA template.

  • What expertise does S&A have?

S&A have an extensive pool of consultants who are both technical and operational experts in their field. In general, our expertise covers the following: ploughs, trenchers, ROVs, cable lay equipment, pipelay equipment, cranes, marine winches and heave compensators. We supply resume summaries with each consultancy proposal for client information.

  • Who retains the intellectual property rights?

When S&A provides consultancy that includes the development of new ideas the base case approach is that the client retains the Intellectual Property (IP) for anything new that results from the consultancy support.
